Coaching
An experienced and knowledgeable coach offers you a significant advantage over your competition and can eliminate costly mistakes. A coach is especially important if you endeavour to excel at a new race distance (such as Ironman), looking for that extra edge that will guide you to the next level or simply because you are new to triathlon. A good coach too, can provide a unique and objective perspective regarding your strengths and weakness, both physical and mental.
Coaching, like training, is an evolving process and my coaching philosophy is based on the total experience of my athletic and coaching career. I have over 32 years of athletic experience and have been coaching single and multi-sport athletes for the past 16 years. I work with athletes of all abilities from the complete novice to the podium elite.
However, most of my athletes are regular folks with the common demands of family and career. Their goal is to excel at triathlon but maintain a sense balance in their life while doing so. One of my abilities is to tailor the athlete’s training program to the demands of the “real world”. You are very busy and training takes up a lot of your time. There is no sense training inefficiently or logging needless miles. My mission is to help you achieve your goals by teaching you to train smarter without sacrificing your entire life to sport.
I have raced extensively at the highest elite amateur level. As a young teenager, I quickly became familiar with competitive middle distance track training and racing. In 1986, I made my 1st attempt at triathlon and over the years achieved multiple trips to the podium. I know how to set and achieve goals that are based on reality, not some pie in the sky hope for success. My racing career contains many race successes that were achieved using my coaching plan that can work for you.
As your coach, I will do all in my power to help you achieve your fitness and racing goals. I promise I will demand from you your very best effort, just as I will give you my best. If you are ready to make the commitment to reach your athletic potential you can contact me directly.

Coaching Philosophy
Many triathletes train too much and are always tired. They are often times a “slave” to the training log and more concerned about quantity versus quality. My training approach is “Less is Better” and I stress frequency of exercise over duration. My training programs will eliminate the junk miles, allow you to train fewer hours, and help keep you mentally fresh and motivated. You will be able to increase your speed and race performance while minimizing burnout and risk of injury.
My goal is for you to have your very best season and still be hungry to train again next year. Triathlon is a life style and I want you in it for the long haul. How do we do that? Short answer: LTAD. By that I mean ‘Long Term Athlete Development’. To perform at your maximum potential isn’t a short term quick fix. But rather by incorporating a comprehensive training plan that accounts for your strengths and weaknesses, both mental and physical, over a longer period of time.
I believe most athletes impose artificial barriers on themselves that impede them from reaching their fullest potential. My job is to help you identify and minimize those obstacles and then design and implement a realistic training plan that focuses on your strengths. You don’t know how good you can be! I will constantly expect your very best effort in all you do. I stress with my athletes the “Champion’s Mentality” of training and racing. Without the proper mind set you are handicapping your progress. I can help you maximize your improvement. Together we can make a great team striving towards your fitness and racing goals.
